Madeleine C Lucas
Maddy is a 4th year PhD Student in the Earth and Space Sciences Department working with Harold Tobin.
Her research aims to characterize the geology, structure, and morphology of active faults in the accretionary wedge of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. As a part of the Cascadia Coastlines and Peoples (CoPes) Hazards Research Hub, her PhD research uses marine seismic data to help inform coastal communities preparing for the next great Cascadia megathrust earthquake.
In collaboration with the CoPes Hub and UW Riverways programs, she has partnered with the Quileute Tribal School in La Push, Washington to increase community awareness of Cascadia earthquake and tsunami hazards, primarily through K-12 teaching. Madeleine is also a graduate student coordinator for Rockin’ Out, the ESS Department’s K-12 Outreach Program. In this position, she has shared her love of Earth Science with over 1,500 students across Washington.
