Ice core research has long been a focus of the UW glaciology group. A new film, The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice, features the work of a group of international collaborators, including Eric Steig and Andrew Schauer, and ESS Alum Paul Bierman. The film tells the remarkable story of the first ice core, drilled in Greenland at the Camp Century military base, and the new discoveries being made on ancient sediment that was recovered from the bottom of the ice, but never analyzed until now.

The film recently won the “Best Professional Documentary” at the Raw Science Film Festival in New York City.
