The Minor in Earth and Space Sciences is designed to provide students maximum flexibility by allowing them to sample from the full range of ESS courses depending on their interests. This interdisciplinary minor is open to all UW students.

To declare a minor you need to meet with your major academic adviser, but it is also recommended to meet with an ESS academic adviser.

Requirements

  • ESS-Designated Courses (30 Credits)
  • At least 15 credits must be in upper division (300 or 400 level) ESS courses of which at least 3 credits must be in ESS courses numbered 401-488.
  • All courses COUNTED TOWARD THE MINOR must be completed with a minimum grade of 2.0.

Climate Minor

The Program on Climate Change partners with several departments, including ESS, to offer the Climate Minor, which offers students a broad perspective for understanding climate change science.

Paleobiology Minor

The Department of Biology offers a minor in paleobiology, which provides students with a foundation in the evolution and ecology of life in deep geologic time. This is a great minor to accompany a degree in Earth and Space Sciences.
