The Department of Earth and Space Sciences has existed, in one form or another, for over 100 years. In that time, we are fortunate to have had a number of alumni and friends who helped create various scholarship funds for the students in our department. The department has a long tradition of holding a ceremony in May of each year to give out these awards and honors. Digital photography and the web make it easier to keep a record of these events.
The awards ceremony is an opportunity for the department to recognize outstanding students, both undergraduate and graduate, for their excellence in academics, leadership, and research. It is also an opportunity for ESS faculty, staff, and students to interact and socialize with our ESS community outside of those who regularly come to campus. The awards ceremony is an uplifting way to begin the wrap-up of the academic year and celebrate our students.
We wish to express a special note of thanks to all of the supporters who make these awards possible.
