- Budget Justification – A budget justification is required for all proposals, even if the sponsor does not require it. It needs to break down the costs by categories, state that the benefits are standard UW rates (if applicable), and list the F&A rate being used. If using a non-standard rate, you will need to explain it here; otherwise, you should list the following sentence or some variation: “Per agreement with DHHS 6/24/2024.”
- Proposal Text –You will need to attach the proposal text even if the sponsor doesn’t require it (such as for transfers and extensions). If the sponsor doesn’t need it, you may upload it under the Internal Documents section.

- Summer Tuition Information
-
- There are two summer rates listed on the budget spreadsheet: the full-time rate and the two-credit rate.
- During the summer quarter, graduate students may be considered full
time for ASE purposes at 2 credits (10 for Aut-Spr).
- However, some programs require students to be registered for full-time status as determined by financial aid, which is 10 credits even during the summer.
- In most cases, it is fine to use the 2-credit rate; however, if a student is required to maintain full-time status because of anything other than ASE purposes, they must do the full 10 credits. This primarily affects students on some visas, as well as being a requirement of some sponsors.

- F&A Rate Waiver
- In some circumstances, you may use a rate lower than the published rates. In these cases, you will need an F&A Waiver Form from OSP https://www.washington.edu/research/forms-and-templates/fa-waiver/.
- These are somewhat rare, but a past example has been when a funding announcement stated that proposals with low overhead rates would be more competitive since it focused extensively on student opportunities.
