In support of the University mission, all academic faculty are expected to maintain a vigorous and high-quality research program, contribute to a positive student learning environments at undergraduate and graduate levels, and to provide service.

Instructional responsibilities must be equitably distributed among all academic faculty.
Assigned duties must match the capabilities of individuals and meet reasonable criteria of fairness among all faculty. Thus, it is expected that all faculty are able and willing to teach at all levels (including general education undergraduate courses, undergraduate courses for majors, graduate-level courses, and supervision of graduate students). All faculty will teach at least one course during every academic quarter with state support. The typical expectation for teaching is participation in one or two courses per year at the undergraduate level for either general education or majors as well as responsibility for one or more graduate-level course. Fulfillment
of the expectation will be individualized based on overall departmental teaching, research, and service effort.
